occupation: Dragon's Lair Used Books & More; owner story: Aurelia & Grigore Dragomir had arrived in Nowhere Island as immigrants from Romania some thirty years prior, and they had settled quickly into their new home. While they truly loved the small island, they never fully integrated -- mostly keeping to themselves, especially after the birth of their daughter, Evangeline.
Grigore never wanted for customers, though most of the important ones showed up in the dead of the night, with strange accents and hushed words. Evangeline grew up in an atmosphere of magic and myth, protected by her parents and kept mostly away from the outside world. She was taught by her parents, both of who had special gifts, just as did Evangeline. She could speak four languages fluently by her tenth birthday, and when most children were learning to ride bikes, Vangee was learning Latin declensions and translating Virgil.
Not completely out of touch with the world, Vangee developed a talent for all things technological, and met most of her friends from behind the screen of her laptop, phone and tablet. By the time she was 25 she had almost completely taken over running the book store, and had created a booming online presence for the Dragon's Lair. Now at 27, Vangee is alone, both of her parents having drowned on an anniversary boating trip turned tragic. Vangee believes the drowning death of her parents was no accident, and is driven by a need to find who (or more like, what) was responsible for their passing.
She herself has inherited gifts from both her parents, and they helped her hone her magical abilities. Her main areas of knowledge are in ancient texts (and languages), magical rites & beings, and the realm of spirits. She is aware there are strange goings on within Nowhere Island, but follows her parents example and keeps her abilities hidden and socializes as little as possible. It has always been a mystery to Vangee why her parents originally left Romania, and although she asked many times during her childhood, the topic was always taboo and would make her parents go silent for hours at a time. Vangee has a familiar in the form of a black cat named Zora, who looks much too wise and uncanny to be any normal animal. face claim: Felice Fawn aol/aim sn: Ghastly Grimoire (ghastlygrimoire)
